Why not Second Wind Adoption
In winter transport you must make judgments to avoid dangerous travel when possible. This may mean you push forward and arrive early to beat the storm. I have seen many tractor trailers on their side on winter roads and that is not a place I want to be with horses in the trailer. After being on I-40 in Arkansas during pre-Christmas blizzard and just making it out of Boston before a record storm, I adjust my schedule to be off the road and empty when the blizzard hits. This is exactly what happened in February 2005 delivering a horse to Celeita Kramer at Second Wind Adoption Program. I skipped lunch with a friend that day so I could push ahead of the impending nor’easter storm. Since I was ahead of schedule, I tried all day to get Celeita Kramer to respond to my phone calls. Several options were possible and one was to head to my place and board the donated horse until the snow cleared and deliver the horse on a weekday after the weather cleared. Unfortunately my request to call me was disregarded even though it was clear Celeita received several emails requesting her to contact me by phone. So I had to make a choice without any input from her. I never met Celeita Kramer in the half dozen times I was at SWAP. Apparently It would be no different this night when 10 inches of snow were on the way. Previously I never could find the light switch at the barn and knew I could use some help with this horse that had spent his entire life in Florida. He had never seen snow and would need blanketed. I had a tack trunk that required 2 men to put on the trailer. I was uncomfortable and irritated and thought this would be the last horse I take to SWAP. I thought she should have the decency to be concerned for the horses safety and understand the seriousness of the situation. I thought she should come to the barn for any horse that was donated to SWAP. She lives within sight of the barn. I never felt good about leaving horses there and knew I would never send my horses there under any circumstances. Well I did get a reply by phone many hours later after I made the decision to procede to SWAP. The only information I got was there would be a stall ready for this horse and it was not snowing there. It also became clear that she had no intentions of being any help at the barn. I thought to myself she should spend as much time with the horses as with her computer.
There is no question that she liked my business. She had me listed as one of the top transporters. Here is direct quote from a letter she wrote:
Terry, I just love the way you love your animals. Enjoyed all the doggy pictures. Don't you have an unmarried brother that is just like you, a friend that is as animal crazy as you???? I need a man that loves animals... okay, so I just need a man. :( I wouldn't tell everyone that. Alway enjoy your pics. Celeita .

I had other emails much less tasteful. I knew she spent considerable time on the computer since my emails always got an immediate reply. After I got the horse tucked in his stall and got the trunk in the barn I left. By the time I was at the passes the snow was heavy and I did not make it home until 6 am. Later that morning I talked to the woman that donated the horse to SWAP and her first words were “ I hope you made it home safe”. With no show of concern for anyone's welfare, an assistant at SWAP called me and simply wanted to know where I put the keys for the trunk. There was no concern for any safety. I wrote this letter to Celeita:
Celeita,
I am sorry you refused to confer with me by phone sooner yesterday. It was a refusal since both Pam and the donator confirmed they reached you by computer and left messages to call me. It wasn't until 5 hours later I finally heard from you. It caused me great concern not being able to speak to you knowing there was an impending storm which might endanger both myself and the horse. I was uncertain as to whether to proceed to SWAP or bring Walter to my place to board. I think I should have been given priority attention and the courtesy of a prompt reply. There are people that know you were on the internet and everyone was telling you to call me there is NO EXCUSE. I am repulsed by those that try and impress by being inaccessible. A high quality donated horse was coming to SWAP on a Sunday evening because the weather reports indicated a later delivery would involve transport in severe weather. We got 10 inches of snow here and I am sure your weather there is worse because I crossed the passes during the storm. They were quite Hazardous with travel through blinding snow and ice. I arrived home at 6am. When I awoke I had 2 messages. One was from my client hoping Walter and I were safe. The other was from a worker at SWAP. Their concern was not if I made it home safe, but where did I put Walter's papers and the key to the trunk. There was as much concern for me as there was for Walter.

I am appalled that you were too aloof to meet me at the barn and help me with Walter's blanket and lift the luggage in the barn. I don't care what time it was. The weather situation was bad and I made the smart move by getting him there before it started. But I was left alone to blanket him, carry his belongs and his heavy trunk by myself. Until you finally did call me I had no idea where the switches were for the barn lights. In the business of getting Walter settled I forgot to leave his paperwork behind. Then I was greeted to a message today that didn't asked if I made it ok, just where are the keys and the paperwork.

Well I don't think anyone is so successful they have a right to be snotty with people trying to do a service. I did my best to see Walter arrived on time before the snow. I think you could have drug yourself away from the internet and come down and met us. If you are in this for the welfare of the animals then you should show yourself to every horse when he arrives. I don't deliver a horse like a UPS package anywhere else. I no longer will do it for SWAP. You may figure you have outgrown barn duty, but sorry, no one is so special. I figure the horse needs to have a person there that understands the stress involved in the transport. If circumstances mean no person is present then I am afraid you will have to lower yourself and come on down.

So that's how I feel. I am sorry you have never seen fit to come down and greet any of the horses I have delivered. But if I am to deliver any more horses to SWAP I expect an apology for this and a change in the way you conduct yourself. I will send his papers when it the weather clears.

Terry Hirneisen

Well that was the end of my relationship with SWAP. Celeita decided to invent lies about me and tell them to the world. She even drug my wife into the picture and called her some harsh names that are unfit for this website. Then, of course I was no longer on the top 5 list of transporters. But then, I would Euphonize Majo or any of my horses before putting them in her care. I used to think it was a wonderful program, but no longer. I have gotten numerous emails from people telling me of suffering horses or the nasty experiences they had with Celeita Krammer. But they are all so afraid of this fanatic and her vile temper they insist on remaining anonymous. I cannot say I blame them, but as long as they remain silent Celeita remains free to be abusive to people and animals.
Now I move on because of good people like this that have written to Celeita:

Hello Celita, I am writing because I am shocked and outraged to read the accusations printed on your website concerning Terry Hirneisen. I am a "soccer mom" and my teenage daughter and I have known Terry for many years now, and have never felt uncomfortable or sexually harrassed by him in any way. In fact, after transporting my horse "Essie", (which he did a wonderful job), I ended up taking my daughter, who by the way is a stunning blonde teenager), to vacation at his house in order to see his andalusians. My husband had met Terry and liked him equally as well. He was perfectly comfortable with us visiting the Hirneisens. Terry's wife and Terry himself treated us like family, and neither my daughter nor I ever felt threatened in any way. During this time and several other times since, Terry had plenty of opportunity alone with either myself or my daughter to "sexually harrass" either one of us ----- nothing of the sort ever happened. Terry has a wickedly funny sense of humor, but the line is drawn at that.
Terry is a passionate supporter of how animals are treated. He will not hesitate to speak up when he feels an animal doesn't have the "best" of care. I for one am thrilled that someone so passionate would have someone like Terry transporting one of my horses. I know that he would do everything in his power to make sure any animal in his care is taken care of to the highest of standards.
I feel horrible about this whole situation. In fact, I am sick to my stomach about it because I was the one who recommended your organization to Terry based on what I had read on your website. I was impressed with what you had written and what seemed like your committment to the horses. Now I have to wonder if I was fooled by a pretty package and nice photos--- because if you can write what you did about Terry with a clear conscience, then something is really wrong.
Please remove what you are saying about Terry immediately from your website before this goes any further. We can certainly agree to disagree, but slandering someone's reputation is a criminal offense.
Thank you.
